Docket in Your Pocket is the brain-child of Iowa lawyer, Matt Haindfield. Initially, Haindfield’s motive was strictly professional. During a court proceeding, he needed information — quick, reliable information — about a witness’s criminal history. So, he reached for his smartphone, and was frustrated to discover that the information he needed was prohibitively difficult to obtain while operating in a mobile environment. After researching the availability of other mobile-based options, and finding none that offered reliable information, he opted to create his own. Four months later, his app could be downloaded via the Android Market and then through the Apple App Store. Haindfield had lawyers in mind when he first decided to develop the app, but he quickly learned it was popular with people other than lawyers. “College kids living away from home were using it to check out their new roommates. Singles out on the dating scene were using it to make informed decisions about the people they were meeting,” he says. “Our customers kept telling us, ‘knowledge is power,’ and ‘more information means smarter choices.’” Why would an Iowa lawyer develop an app for Pennsylvanians? “We wanted a state with a large percentage of smartphone users and where there was an existing database of criminal records,” Haindfield says. “Pennsylvania fit the bill.” The Pennsylvania version of the app was officially launched on October 24, 2011. Plans are underway to expand to all 50 states in the months ahead. |

Born, raised and still residing in Iowa, Matt Haindfield is a civil litigation attorney practicing in Des Moines, Iowa. A graduate of Iowa State University and Drake University Law School, Haindfield is married to Danielle, also an attorney practicing in Des Moines. Frustrated by the lack of quick, reliable and mobile-based information regarding criminal records, Haindfield set out to create his own app – Docket in Your Pocket. That wasn’t the only reason he took matters into his own hands. “The goal is to empower people to make informed decisions about the people they meet at work, school or in a social situation,” he says. |

A computer programmer and technology specialist, Tim Byrnes earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University and promptly plied his trade for major firms in the Dallas, Texas and Tampa, Florida markets. In 2006, Tim and his wife, Katie, moved back home to central Iowa to raise a family. With a keen eye for revolutionary technology, and enthusiasm for a challenge, Tim was quick to embrace Matt’s bold vision and pioneering goals.
